This poster was Margo St. James PERSONAL COPY obtained from the St. James Estate. The family has found it necessary to let go of various items to cover medical expenses. Other posters from this collection will be appearing periodically in our auctions.
We are extremely pleased to offer this rare original poster in our auction for the first time. This was produced for the FIRST Annual Hookers Ball Convention held at Glide Church on June 26th 1974. In the 1970's self-described prostitute and sex-positive feminist Margo St. James was the founder of the "COYOTE" organization (Call Off Your Old Tired Ethics) which advocated decriminalization of prostitution. Fund raising involved an annual hosting of the well-attended Hooker's Ball which gathered thousands of attendees through the seventies.
