This first printing postcard seldom surfaces for collectors in such high quality condition! The Who made San Francisco their second stop on the US leg of their 1968 US tour. They played one night at the Fillmore and two nights at Winterland. These February 1968 concerts were part of the Who's first US tour as a headlining act. The show was opened by jazz saxophone legend Cannonball Adderly and a New York band The Vagrants featuring guitarist Leslie West a group known for being the first band to destroy their instruments at the end of their show.
This Lee Conklin classic is one of the most sought after Who ephemera of all. It shows up only occasionally as most copies are held tightly by their owners. Original Postcards are without a doubt one of the fastest growing segments of the marketplace for vintage 1960’s concert poster art. Why? The reason is simple. These beautiful postcards display the same iconic art feature the same classic bands are created by the same legendary artists and are linked to the same moments in history as their far larger posters. Not only are these postcards a tiny fraction of the cost of the posters they are also FAR EASIER to store and collect.
Every collector that owns these wonderful pieces of history also acknowledge that they also look great when framed and displayed as well! When you compare the current market levels of these 50+ year old postcards with the values of comparable sports cards of the same era it’s easy to understand why many collectors consider this to be the greatest collectibles bargain in the world today! What a fabulous low risk way to comfortably enter and explore this exploding marketplace!
