This 1992 original poster was produced to advertise a Sub Pop Records Release Party at the X-Ray Cafe in Portland. The small pacific northwest venue played a big role in shaping Portland's underground music scene by fostering talent like the late great Elliott Smith and hosting national acts like Green Day. The X-Ray Cafe went down in history as one of the best rock clubs in the country. Unlike many of the most popular and sought after concert posters from the 1960’s and 1970’s there were no official reprints of these posters that are still readily available in big quantities today. This means collectors are forced to chase down the few surviving Original First Printings.
Material from the pacific northwest is always considered special by collectors. They often tell a story all their own and have a different vibe than pieces from other parts of the country. It’s hard to believe this poster is over 25 years old. “Telephone pole flyers” like this are highly collectible and are notably representative of the music loving culture that produced them.
