At PAE we love seeking out vintage material only available through people deeply involved in the scene years ago. Our goal is to offer the collecting community only the most SPECIAL and UNIQUE items. This lot exemplifies everything we enjoy about that process! This original Business Card exhibits the famous original Family Dog Logo designed by Wes Wilson. This card was one of several produced for Family Dog’s artist Jack Jaxon (Jackson) to distribute to clients. Jaxon created FD-114 The Fugs Avalon poster however he had already become a noteworthy cartoonist by being a co-founder of the famous Rip Off Press. Many consider him to be one of the very first underground comix artists.
In 1967 The Family Dog organization moved from 1725 Washington Street to 639 Gough Street in San Francisco. We believe this card was produced in 1968 when Jaxon began creating art for Avalon posters. Later when Family Dog was no longer doing shows at the Avalon Ballroom Soundproof Productions began producing a series of concerts at the venue in January 1969. Soundproof enlisted the talents of Jaxon along with several underground comix artists like Rick Griffin and Gilbert Shelton for the designs on the promotional material. This historic business card is 100% Original and proves to be a true collectible. No avid FD material collector should be without this piece in their treasure troves!
