We are excited to offer the collecting community one of the most interesting INSIDER items we've ever had the pleasure of offering in our auction! This is an original Grateful Dead Backstage Laminated Staff Pass from the 1985 twenty year anniversary summer tour dates produced for official Dead management member Sue Stephens! She was Jerry Garcia's longtime secretary and bookkeeper.

The design on the pass was created by Tim Harris and another laminated pass with this same art is displayed in The Art of Rock book as AOR # 4.294 made for Steven Marcus. The one you see here measures 2 6/8" x 3 7/8" was produced for Sue Stephens and includes her photo in the center of the train design (art very similar to the Dylan & The Dead Train a few years later created by Griffin).

Sue Stephens was one of the many behind-the-scene faces integral to Grateful Dead lore whose contributions to the band's legacy were often overlooked. She was hired as an office assistant by Garcia's manager Richard Loren in 1974 serving as Jerry's official secretary and bookkeeper. Her duties included paying Garcia’s bills and handling his checking account. Jerry was so fond of Sue that he walked her down the aisle at her Marin wedding in 1990. Stephens would go on to work for the Garcia estate until 1999.
