This poster was created for the great singer songwriter Phil Ochs and a concert held February 16th 1970 at the MIT University Kresge Auditorium on the campus of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge Massachusetts.
The event was part of the University’s “Winter Weekend” events which often featured musical performances and films throughout two or three days of the weekend. The poster itself is a handpulled screenprint created on posterboard at the MIT Art Department before the concert.
In a league of its own this relic was printed in ridiculously low quantities. There were allegedly only a handful of copies that were made by the student print shop at MIT for these appearances. According to accounts they were posted around the campus and most of them disappeared.
We have previously auctioned other posters that were also produced in the MIT Print Shop for MIT shows before the concerts including Janis Joplin The Byrds The Grateful Dead and a different Phil Ochs poster with completely different artwork. All of them received considerable bidder attention as the chances of ever having the opportunity to acquire another specimen is virtually nil!
