For the FIRST TIME in our auction this super rare and early Talking Heads poster is being offered to the collecting community!
Talking Heads were one of the most entertaining bands of the late ‘70s and early ‘80s. Only into their second year being signed to Sire Records this poster was designed by Andrew Elias for concerts held at The Spectrum in Buffalo & The Triangle Community Center in Rochester New York. The design is a reference to the cover of their debut album released a year prior.
The young group had just released their second album “More Songs About Buildings and Food” in July and were gaining hot popularity on a national scale with their cover of Al Green’s “Take Me To The River” reaching the Top 30 Billboard Single Charts. This poster is an absolute joy to gaze upon even in its simplicity. Check out the back-print on the reverse side from the posters originally being stacked at the press. The back of the poster exhibits a backward reflection of the front!
Original Talking Heads concert posters have been showing a recent spike in interest by collectors due to their promotional material being very limited and rarely surfacing. This piece is especially scarce and unique because it’s from very early in their career as they began to transform from a quirky CBGB spectacle to the addition of their new producer Brian Eno tightening up the rhythm section's energy for more dance-oriented beats and high quality album production.
This amazing example you see here is the FIRST real original and complete issue of this rare and early print run of 1978 Talking Heads posters to surface in our auction.
