This extremely rare original Pre-Concert First Printing CARDBOARD poster features one of the greatest combinations of legendary talent to ever grace the same stage for a two night run at our nation's capitol: THE GRATEFUL DEAD & THE ALLMAN BROTHERS! An estimated 80 000 people attended the two shows played at RFK Stadium in Washington D.C. on June 9th & 10th of 1973.
One of just a handful known this is the VERY FIRST example of this Major Museum Rarity that we have EVER handled. Later printings of this issue on paper with different text at the bottom and a darker brown colored border have surfaced for collectors over the years - however the Original CARDBOARD Pre-Concert poster like this one here is almost impossible to locate and stands in a league of its own!
Another milestone for this lot is the incredible quality condition this specimen has remained in during all these years. There are NO TEARS OR PINHOLES whatsoever on this piece - which is highly unusual for a historic artifact of this age pushing almost 50 years. It is not an understatement to say that there are MANY highly sophisticated collectors with deep pockets that have been unsuccessfully chasing this elusive masterpiece for literally DECADES. We count ourselves in this group. Because the MANY have been chasing the FEW KNOWN to exist demand is as high as the sky.
There are Grateful Dead collectors who only want the best. There are Allman Brothers collectors that only want the unique and special. This piece has it ALL. Rarity. Condition. A place in the heart of the fans. The audio recordings of these shows at RFK in 73 are legendary because on the Sunday concert the Dead played an extra 3rd set and Dickey Betts & Butch Trucks of The Allman Brothers joined them on stage along with special guest Merl Saunders. AMAZING MUSIC was played at these shows! A unique piece of rock and roll history from two of the genre's most important bands!
Allman Brothers concert posters are amongst the hottest areas of the marketplace right now. Maybe the hottest segment of them all! With record prices being registered on a regular basis accurate estimates are difficult to ascertain.
