When it comes to music memorabilia most experts agree that there is The Beatles...and then everyone else.
That's why when you open up the Art of Rock book staring you right in the face before the preface before the introduction before the title page is a full page picture of THIS POSTER!
The fact that the creators of Art of Rock chose THIS POSTER to be the very first image on the very first page set aside all by itself when they had several hundred images to choose from tells you everything you need to know about the historical importance of this issue.
This poster marks the Beatles at the height of their powers. By this point in 1965 Manager Brian Epstein had secured their place in of music history forever changing their lives and the world.
The Beatles already had 2 United States tours under their belt and their new album “Help!” had come out just two weeks prior.
Many Beatles fans are very familiar with this famous concert for several reasons. 1) The 12 song set was one of the first major stadium concerts. 2) It was the first show on the band’s 1965 North American Tour and without question the highlight of the tour. There were over 55 600 fans in attendance. 3) It was the largest Beatles concert up to that point. "Beatlemania" was at its peak causing John Lennon to proclaim "Shea Stadium...I Saw The Top Of The Mountain."
The editors of Art of Rock are not the only experts to designate this concert as historically important...
The officially released "Anthology 2" album contains a recording of "Everybody's Trying to Be My Baby" from this show. And a fifty-minute-long documentary of the concert was filmed and released by Ed Sullivan Productions. The film contains images of many fans crying screaming and even fainting. Many of them were young girls. The security guards were covering their ears due to all the noise from the audience.
We constantly receive requests for this poster from collectors across the globe and it very seldom turns up in public auctions. This is only the second CGC graded example to ever appear in our auction over the past 13 years alone. The high watermark for this issue is $11 250 which was realized over 6 years ago in another public auction during December 2012. That specimen was cataloged as being in "Fair Condition with Stains" but was NOT independently authenticated or graded by CGC. This example here is a special treasure is every respect and should not be overlooked.
