This is the FIRST CGC graded example of this Original Pre-Concert Printing Blue Variant Poster to appear at public auction! The Grateful Dead played the Avalon Ballroom on three consecutive nights in April of 1969 and they were supported by Gram Parsons and the Flying Burrito Brothers. This poster is featured in The Art of Rock plate 2.26.

When Family Dog was no longer doing shows at the Avalon Ballroom Soundproof Productions began producing a series of concerts at the venue in January 1969. Soundproof enlisted the talents of several underground comix artists like Rick Griffin Gilbert Shelton and Jack Jaxon for the designs on the promotional material. This April 1969 Grateful Dead poster was created by Jaxon. The show on Sunday 4/6 was broadcast live on KPFA-FM Berkeley.

The OP-1 OP-2 and this OP-3 example here were all original pre-concert printings but they are differentiated by color variations. In April 2017 we auctioned a CGC graded 9.4 black print on green paper variant for $1737. While this original printing poster was produced in a couple different color combinations this SUPERIOR 9.6 is the FINEST QUALITY CONDITION example of ANY we have ever auctioned. Exciting bids await this favored lot!
