This is only the third CGC graded example of this issue to surface in our auction! It's a very early Grateful Dead poster created for the Zen Mountain Center Benefit held at the Avalon in late ‘66. A very young Grateful Dead performed along with Quicksilver Messenger Service and Big Brother as the opening bands however there are no audio recordings or known set lists archived of the concert. The event was called "A Zenefit".
Early Grateful Dead posters from this era with low print runs and low survival rates seldom turn up in our auction. We've only seen this original poster surface through our hands 5 times in the past 12 years and only three of them were certified by CGC. In September 2019 a lower 6.0 graded example reached $600 in our auction. In any other collectibles market this poster would be worth many multiples of the previously sold example. It will be interesting to see what premium the market attaches to this superior example now.
