For the FIRST TIME in our auction we have a great Jerry Garcia relic from the legendary Keystone Berkeley venue – a home away from home for Garcia’s many side projects from the Grateful Dead.
This is a June 1974 Calendar Flier also showcasing several well known acts of the day including Elvin Bishop Cold Blood John Lee Hooker The Tubes and more!
The icing on the cake:
1. Jerry Garcia & Merl Saunders on June 6th. The core members of the group Jerry Garcia Merl Saunders and John Kahn had been performing together since 1971. Additional members included Martin Fierro on saxophone & flute and Bill Kreutzmann from the Dead on drums. The band would later be known as “Legion of Mary” and other variations of the Jerry Garcia Band. This Keystone show happened and the recording is available for fans online. The additional Garcia Saunders shows on the 11th and 12th on this Keystone calendar were cancelled.
2. The Great American String Band on June 13th and 14th. An ACOUSTIC Blugrass supergroup featuring JERRY GARCIA – similar to the Old & In The Way project from a year before. The Great American String Band included the great David Grisman on Mandolin Richard Greene on Fiddle Buell Neidlinger on bass and David Nichtern on rhythm guitar. These shows happened and the recordings are out there for fans to celebrate!
