This HANDBILL is signed in marker by the legendary Willie Nelson AND in pen by the artist Micael Priest!

We're pleased to offer this Texas rarity for the FIRST TIME in our auction! Armadillo HANDBILLS are much harder to find than the posters and this one is extra special because it's DOUBLE SIGNED by Willie Nelson in marker & artist Micael Priest in pen! It was produced in 1972 for a weekend of shows featuring the great Willie Nelson and country music legend Michael Murphey.

Willie Nelson's vast and rich musical legacy is well known. Not enough however can be said about the lesser known - but just as important - Michael Murphey. He became part of the Outlaw Country Movement playing alongside other maverick performers like Willie Nelson and the great Jerry Jeff Walker. He created a unique sound that combined his many country rock and folk influences. It was during this era that he co-wrote "Geronimo's Cadillac" with lyricist Charles John Quarto. The song was about Native American Rights which later became an unofficial anthem for the American Indian Movement of the early 1970's.

This handbill just emerged from a recently unearthed and long held collection of Texas material owned by a long time resident and participant of the Austin music scene! The Armadillo World Headquarters opened in Austin just after the closing of the Vulcan Gas Company. It went on to become the premiere venue in that musically rich city from 1970-1980. This legendary club offered an incredibly eclectic range of performers in its 10 year tenure. The posters and handbills from these shows represent one of the greatest collections of poster art available anywhere.

Demand for Armadillo material is currently at an all time high and we see this as just the early days in a long trend. This can be attributed to several reasons including scarcity historical significance as ground zero in the Texas psychedelic scene and the recently published book on the venue "Armadillio World Headquarters - A Memoir" by Eddie Wilson with Jesse Sublett and forward by Dave Marsh.
