Here we have the FIRST specimen of this Original Beatles Washington DC issue to ever appear in our auction! When it comes to music memorabilia most experts agree that there is The Beatles...and then everyone else. This original concert handbill was produced for the Beatles performance on August 15 1966 at the District of Columbia Stadium in Washington DC. The stadium was later renamed RFK Stadium in 1969 in honor of Robert F Kennedy.
The concert was part of their 1966 final tour and the band only played shows for a couple more weeks before hanging it up for good. There was also controversy over John Lennon's remark about the Beatles being "more popular than Jesus" death threats and the band's own dissatisfaction with the screaming fans affecting their ability to perform live. Change was soon afoot. This concert was held just a month or so after the release of “Revolver” and it was clear that the band was taking an exciting new direction with their recordings.
Over 32 000 fans attended this show and the opening acts were The Cyrkle and The Ronettes. A very small quantity of these original handbills have survived the test of time and even LESS still exist in this INCREDIBLE High Quality Condition. Another example in lesser condition described as "Near Mint Minus with minor wear toning" sold in another public auction for $3 250 over a year and a half ago.
