This poster emerged from a recently unearthed and long held collection of Texas material owned by a long time resident and participant of the Austin music scene!
"Blow Your Mind"! This large and beautiful poster features the World Class artistry of legendary counter culture artist Gilbert Shelton. This is only the second CGC graded example we've ever auctioned and without a doubt in the FINEST QUALITY CONDITION! Austin's own "The Thingies" were the headlining group performing and they were also the house band for another legendary Texas music venue The Pleasure Dome. Just 500 posters were originally produced and the VG-5 is one of the most popular & difficult to find issues of the series.
Shelton was the art director of the Vulcan Gas Company along with Jim Franklin of Armadillo World Headquarters fame. Shelton went on to become one of most well known underground Comix artists of all time. He was one of the founders of “Rip off Press” and was best known for his hilarious and popular “Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers” comix. The material that was created for the Vulcan Gas Company in Austin Texas in the 1960s are some of the most desirable and valuable in the entire genre of Psychedelic Concert art. Very few of these posters exist in ANY condition today and the few that have surfaced over the years have been mostly restored. This piece is 100% Original with no restoration!
