This collectible was created to quickly get the word out about a wake for Chocolate George Hendricks. Chocolate George was a beloved figure in the Haight and a highly regarded Hell's Angel. He was killed in an accident on Haight Street on August 24th.
The longtime association between the Hell’s Angels and the Grateful Dead goes back to the band's earliest days. The well-known Motorcycle club staged several events over the years that featured the Dead. The posters and handbills from these occurrences are some of the most desirable and valuable paper Grateful Dead advertisements ever created.
This completely original double sided piece is a real gem; very few of these have surfaced over the years. Now is your chance to own one with THIRD PARTY CERTIFICATION! CGC grading can be extremely strict and this is a perfect example of that factor. We believe this handbill is super conservatively graded. It was printed on VERY THIN PAPER. The paper is creased but otherwise this specimen is ULTRA CLEAN overall.
In October 2016 we auctioned the first example of this handbill we had ever offered but at the time it was not eligible for CGC authentication. It sold for $6 354 in our Mega Sale. This example here is the first to surface with CGC grading and is far superior to the previous specimen we offered! The specimen offered now was kept for the past 53 years in a dark filing cabinet by someone that attended the wake. There are no nicks cuts tears or pinholes.
