Designed by Stanley Mouse and the late Alton Kelley this poster creates a stunning visual impact to the viewer. This image is so powerful that it was used by Gary Grimshaw for his Zebra Man Grande Ballroom poster just weeks later.
News spread quickly last year about the sad passing of Roky Erickson at age 71 which has already spurred a massive interest in concert material for collectors and fans alike. Texas native Roger Kynard "Roky" Erickson was a founding member of The 13th Floor Elevators and a pioneer of the psychedelic rock genre. The group was a major innovator of '60s Rock & the "San Francisco Sound". They made several stops to the Fillmore and Avalon early on.
In June 2017 a double signed CGC graded 8.0 example reached $817 in our auction but the 9.6 lot you see here is in a different universe when it comes to superior condition. When inspecting the poster ourselves we had a difficult time seeing why it wasn't graded 9.8 - which is why strict grading by a third party is so key. This hard to find Original Avalon poster is one of the most beloved in the entire numbered series. Clearly the lucky new owner of this poster will take immense joy in owning this SUPERB MUSEUM PIECE now and this satisfaction is sure to grow with each passing year!
