This Bill Graham poster advertises concerts in 1974 at Oakland Stadium by two of the most popular heavy-hitter names in the history of rock: The Grateful Dead and The Beach Boys! This was part of the lineup for the "Day on the Green #1" which became a recurring event for the next few years. Also listed for shows at Cow Palace a week later are Prog-rock legends King Crimson and the psych band Ten Years After. The poster was designed by well known poster artist Randy Tuten.
In the late sixties after a year of being rejected as a poster artist by Chet Helms at the Avalon a young Randy Tuten took his portfolio to the Fillmore where Bill Graham immediately hired him. Tuten was partial to traditional advertising styles and Graham was bound to see his work as something more like his own tastes. Graham continued to tap Tuten through the seventies for poster design work time and time again for venues like the Oakland Stadium Cow Palace and others.
