It's with great pleasure we can now offer the collecting community the FIRST example of this original San Francisco Mime Troupe poster to ever appear in our auction!
The piece is unique because it has the dates hand written with black marker with red underlines. The poster advertises the final performances of “A Minstrel Show" Civil Rights in a Cracker Barrel which was the Mime Troupe's first touring show. These took place at the Berkeley Little Theater in October 1965. The poster does not list Bill Graham's name like some of the other Mime Troupe promotional material from this era.
Several months later in 1966 Bill Graham's name still appeared on some of their advertising but was soon removed as he was involved with his new business. The Mime Troupe toiled on in pretty much the same fashion as they previously had with their Politically critical-ironic overtones and free performances.
San Francisco counter-culture material from 1965 is few and far between highly sought after very desirable -- and in our opinion an excellent value at current market levels. Bid accordingly!
