The most notifiable difference between the first printing edition and this second printing is the black triangle in the upper left corner. This piece features artwork from beloved poster artist Rick Griffin. The cartoon alien image is amongst the most popular designs from the short lived Denver Family Dog Series. The poster is one of the best Doors posters ever produced and the only one done for the band by this highly collected artist. The lettering is also one of the more difficult to decipher of any of Ricks work. Great artwork great artist great band and it’s in super clean condition with no tears or pinholes!
This is loosely considered to be a second printing poster since it has a black background behind the Family Dog logo at upper left corner possibly printed shortly following the concert dates though could have been produced prior to the concert - It is an authorized printing in any case - Designated as FD-D18-?P-2 in the Family Dog Denver concert poster series meaning that noted expert & author Eric King in his "COLLECTOR'S GUIDE TO THE PSYCHEDELIC ROCK CONCERT POSTERS POSTCARDS & HANDBILLS 1965 TO 1973" (10th Edition) mentioned that while most folks who have studied Family Dog printing history have concluded that the red triangle version is the first printing of the poster and the black triangle poster is the second printing he lists a number of observations which indicate reasons one may not be able to arrive at a firm conclusion regarding whether this is a true first printing printed prior to the concert date in late 1967 or a second authorized printing produced after the concert date.
