Original Pre-Concert FIRST Printing! Rick Griffin’s masterpiece the "Flying Eyeball" BG-105 is considered by many collectors to be the most famous concert poster from the 1960’s. This treasured museum piece represents what is arguably the best artwork ever rendered for a rock concert poster. This poster works on every level. It was created by the most inventive artist of the genre promoting the most striking musician of the era at the most famous venue of all!
The story behind the poster is that promoter Bill Graham dropped the ball the first time Hendrix played the Fillmore by placing the groundbreaking guitarist THIRD on the bill (BG-69). The next time Hendrix came around it was made clear to Graham by Hendrix management that he needed to make up for his previous lack of judgment. Of course he went straight to Rick Griffin to create the best possible work of art. The rest is history.
The specimen offered here represents an extra special opportunity as it demonstrates the unique and superior advantages and VALUE of buying an INDEPENDENTLY and STRICTLY graded CGC specimen instead of "rolling the dice" with your hard earned money based on the subjective opinion of what the seller (US!) claims it is. Let's break down exactly what we're talking about here:
1) First and foremost this specimen has been off the market since the early 1980's it is super fresh and a new offering for collectors.
2) This specimen is 100% ORIGINAL with no restoration of any kind. It is PINHOLE FREE and exhibits bright colors.
3) Due to the presence of hard creases and a large circular discoloration running through the top of the poster CGC has graded this specimen a SUPER STRICT 5.0.
4) We can say with 100% CONFIDENCE that this is the strictest possible grade that CGC or anyone else could possibly assign.
What this means for collectors RIGHT NOW ... is a chance to buy the most famous poster of them all .... in PINHOLE FREE condition with World Class eye appeal ...at a fraction of what the mint copies would command.
If your ever dreamed of owning an Original First Printing of this classic rarity but didn't want a copy that all torn up and pinned up this could be your very best chance to do so.
And best of all when the time comes to sell this Classic Rarity will be HIGHLY LIQUID because it's condition will based NOT ON OUR OPINION but on the opinion of an unbiased independent expert.
That folks is how you get the most poster for your hard earned collecting dollar!
The BG-105 is most often associated with the Grateful Dead FD-26 Skeleton and Roses as the two most famous 1960's concert poster images of all time. They are similar in artistic quality rarity and desirability. We recently sold a FD-26 CGC graded 5.0 for $20 400.00 which shows that collectors are starting to assign high values to Classic Rarities even in lower grades.
For those paying attention we previously auctioned this poster off a few months back. Unfortunately the winning bidder never paid so it is being offered once again.
