We are very proud to offer the FIRST CGC graded example of this Original Handbill to appear in our auction! The "Trip or Freak" is a rare collaboration between three of the most prolific and talented artists of the era: Rick Griffin Stanley Mouse and Alton Kelley. The image was designed for a 1967 Halloween show at Winterland which featured The Grateful Dead Big Brother and Quicksilver Messenger Service.
The central image is of Lon Chaney in his role in the 1925 American classic silent film "Phantom of The Opera". The background rows is the same image repeated to give the appearance of blotter acid. The script at the top of the poster reads “Trip or Freak” and upon close inspection reveals a hidden image of a bare breasted dancing woman. The “C” in “Quicksilver” was mistakenly omitted from the print adding to the collectability.
The poster for this issue seldom surfaces at public auction or even in private trades and when it does it always generates lots of attention. This handbill is also extremely difficult to find and this First Printing SUPERB Museum Quality Condition example here is of high caliber - shining a bright 9.8 grade by CGC! Do not let this opportunity pass you by!
